Randy: Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. Now we get questions a lot about adapters. Customers want to know how they can convert their seven pole plug on the back of their vehicle to work with a four pole type plug for a trailer, maybe a cargo carrier that has lights or even like a lighted hitch cover. This adapter is going to allow us to plug directly into our seven pole. You can see the four contacts there. It's going to pass it right through to a regular four pole style plug.
So we're going to have our ground and have our running light circuit. We're going to have our left turning brake and our right turning brake.Now by using this adapter, it eliminates the need for you to modify your vehicle's wiring. You don't have to cut, you don't have to splice anything. I really like that about it. I never like cutting any wiring unless I really have to.
Overall the quality of construction is really nice. It gets good customer reviews and all in all, it's a basic set up. I like the fact though that it does have a cover on it. Some people just leave this installed. Being able to put that cover on there I think makes it nice.
It's going to keep it protected and keep corrosion to a minimum. To go along with that, we always recommend the use of dielectric grease whether it's on an adapter or just a normal plug. Seven pole, four pole, they can all benefit from this.Basically this is going to keep moisture from getting in our contacts. Moisture absorbs dirt and holds it in there, then eventually it's going to corrode. This is going to eliminate that problem for you.
So we'll know anytime we connect, we'll have a good connection and we won't have any issues there. Now as far as use, it's just like a seven pole plug. We're going to slide this in until the catch on the door goes behind the tab there that holds everything in place for it. Goes in nice and smooth, and at that point all we have to do is connect our four pole. Now there are plenty of options when it comes to these adapters. I would definitely buy this one. I think it's nice, simple and basic.There's also options that have a tester built in. I like that option as well. Basically if you have any problems you can eliminate half of it just by knowing that you're getting the power back here to this plug. That's going to leave you with looking for problems in your trailer to solve it. Now in some trailer applications they have five pins. This is four pole adapter that fifth pin gives you a reverse circuit. So if in the future you think you might have a marine trailer that has surge breaks, or if you're just going to add a couple of lights to the back of your trailer so when you hit reverse it kind of illuminates the area you're heading, I think a seven pole to a five pole adapter would be a good idea too. Not much difference in them and as far as what they're going to cost you, and it gives you just that one additional option there in case you need it.
The whole hitch system is excellent! At first finding where to put the parts and pieces behind the bumper was difficult, but after a few times, one learns exactly where the key hole, the hole for the hitch and where the place to put the 7-way connector is. I am very happy that I purchased this.
Exactly what I needed for my motorhome to trailer connection.
Worked fine first hookup. Then on second hookup it fit loose, and no lights. Had to move it up and down to make connection. Had to revert back to 5 pin adapter to 7. To be sure the lights worked while traveling. Dissappointed.

LOL, I already gave this some thought. You know it isn't going to work if it arrived before you ordered it. Bit of a stretch but it was WAY fast getting here. The rest of the story.....it fit so well, I thought it DIDN'T!! True story. It went on so smoothly, it was in place and locked and I didn't even feel it. It has a nifty dust cover over the four flat connector. Wound up looking professional. Thanks ET
